From the 'In the Wild' series of PBS Home Video, this is "In the Lion’s Den" with Anthony Hopkins.
“”I have always loved the look of lions,” says actor Anthony Hopkins. “They are aloof, independent, and make no apologies for their existence. They hold an endless fascination for me.”
Africans say that when a lion roars, a ruler is born. Indeed, throughout the world the lion symbolizes not just danger, but also royalty, power and dominion. Yet, though people have long studied the animal, many things about the lion remain a mystery. Hopkins sets out to find the answers to the questions that for centuries have intrigued us about the king of the beasts.
His journey takes him to East Africa, where he first experiences the thrill of meeting a lion in the wild. He also meets the Masai, the fabled warrior tribe, who have an extraordinary insight into the lions through living with them for generations; and the members of the Lion Research Project, who look to the future with one of the longest running animal studies in the world. But it is at spectacular Ngorongoro Crater that Hopkins is able to observe at close range the power of a pride of lions in the wild, and learns that lion society is not quite what he imagined.”
